Dean of Salisbury, Nicholas Papadopulos: Stories from Israel-Palestine
Between January and April 2024 Nick spent three months’ sabbatical leave volunteering in occupied East Jerusalem with the World Council of Churches’ Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel, which he describes as ‘an overwhelming experience’.
He monitored human rights, visited holy sites, worshipped in different churches, spoke with many people and many organisations, lived through the Muslim observance of Ramadan, and celebrated Holy Week and Easter in the city where Jesus died and rose again – all against the merciless backdrop of the war in Gaza.
